About Helen

Helen is a Psychologist and Psychotherapist with great empathy and authenticity. She works with teens and adults and has a special interest in trauma. Helen is highly skilled in EMDR, Schema Therapy, ACT & CBT.

Helen's passion for helping those affected by trauma has motivated her to train in therapies with proven effectiveness in this field. Accordingly, she has done both levels 1 and 2 of Eye Movement Desensitising and Reprocessing (EMDR) training as well as advanced levels of specialised training in EMDR. Helen also has training and experience in Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

Besides her interest in trauma, Helen is an accomplished therapist for other mental challenges such as Depression, Anxiety, Mood difficulties, Relationship challenges, Perfectionism and general life challenges and decisions. She often utilises a Mindfulness approach built on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) principals, which Helen aims to live by in her personal life too. Research has found that Mindfulness and Meditation are evidence-based techniques that can alleviate Anxiety, Stress, Depression, and a general sense of dis-ease and discontent in life. With regular practice over time, a practitioner of Mindfulness builds greater equanimity and emotional balance, a state of mind which can effectively counter the ups and downs of life.

Helen is always client centered. That means that she is compassionate and kind and truly listens to her clients, to understand them and their challenges deeply without judgement or preconceived ideas. She utilises Motivational Interviewing Techniques to facilitate her and her client's uncovering of the issues at hand. With this deep understanding, Helen then teaches her clients practical tools to become unstuck and move forward to better mental health.

Helen's approach can be described as genuine, compassionate and thoughtful. She is authentic and solution driven with a good sense of humour.

Helen utilises Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness, Schema Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, Eye Movement Desensitising and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT). She tailors her approach to the needs of the client who as a person, always remains more important than a therapeutic technique.
