Rebates, Referrals, & Payment Options

Understanding the costs and payment process for therapy should be stress-free. Our reception team is here to assist with all practical queries.

  • Medicare Rebates : If you have a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) and referral from your GP, Medicare will subsidise a portion of the fee for up to 10 sessions per calendar year. We process your rebate on-the-spot.

  • Gap Payment : Our psychologists are a specialist service. A gap payment (currently between $134.80 - $150.35 with a MHCP) will apply, as Medicare only provides a subsidy, not full coverage.

  • Private Health : Depending on your coverage, you may be able to claim a portion of your session fee through your Private Health Fund (not combinable with a Medicare rebate for the same session).

  • Payment Methods : We accept standard payment methods and also offer Afterpay for your convenience.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Does psychological therapy work?

Yes. Psychotherapy is highly effective, with the American Psychological Association noting a 75% success rate. It is linked with positive changes in the brain and body, improving emotional well-being, mood, and actions for a wide range of common mental health disorders, including PTSD, Depression, and Anxiety.

2. I'm interested in EMDR. How do I know if it’s right for me?

EMDR is a specialised therapy particularly effective for individuals who have experienced trauma, disturbing memories, or have symptoms like chronic anxiety and disconnection that seem rooted in past experiences. The best way to determine suitability is to book an initial appointment to discuss your history and goals with one of our EMDR Psychologists.

3. What is the difference between a Clinical Psychologist and a Registered Psychologist?

Both are highly trained professionals who provide therapy. In Australia, the main difference is often related to a slight variation in master’s level training and is primarily a Medicare category arrangement for differentiating billing and rebates. All our practitioners are highly trained and focused on providing excellent, evidence-based care.

4. How long is the wait time to see a practitioner?

Wait times vary between practitioners depending on their availability. If you require an urgent appointment, please let our team know. We also maintain a cancellation list and will contact you via text as soon as an earlier time becomes available.

5. Can I get a Medicare rebate for Couple's Therapy?

Unfortunately, Medicare does not provide rebates for couple's therapy. However, you may be covered under your private health insurance (we recommend checking with them directly and quoting item number 300 or Y300).

6. Do I need a referral to make an appointment?

You do not need a referral to make an appointment, but without a referral and a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP, you will not be entitled to a rebate from Medicare.
