Nur Aydin - Psychologist

Nur is a compassionate psychologist with a calm and thoughtful manner. She is a warm, accepting, and supportive therapist and a sympathetic listener. She works with clients from diverse populations and across the lifespan, from five years and older. Her areas of expertise include anxiety, depression, trauma recovery (including childhood trauma), chronic health issues and pain, burnout, adjustment difficulties, and neurodiversity. Nur provides neuro-affirming, culturally responsive and person-centred care, and she demonstrates compassion, warmth, and respect in all her interactions.

Clinically trained in the UK, Germany, and Australia, she brings a comprehensive and rich evidence-based understanding of psychology into practice.

Therapy is about Feeling Safe enough to Heal and Grow

Successful therapy is always based on a therapeutic relationship that creates a safe space for growth, healing and change. Nur helps clients to relate to their difficulties with kindness and compassion. She encourages them to find the courage and strength to make changes by taking small steps that fit within their existing lifestyle, leading incrementally to reaching their greater goals for therapy and growing as humans. Nur helps clients to find and connect with their innate ability for personal growth.

Collaboratively deciding on therapeutic goals, she helps her clients through practical strategies to thrive in their lives and relationships. Nur’s kind, non-judgemental and supportive manner means she is client-, rather than problem-centred.  Psychological therapy can help a person gain better self-insight, understand unhelpful thought processes, and improve mood, symptoms and relationships. Nur believes therapy is a partnership wherein she values curiosity, compassion, and helping clients move towards meaningful change.

Nur believes strongly in inclusivity, and she is passionate about working with clients from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds, with a special interest in cross-cultural wellbeing approaches.

Help with Chronic Disease Management

Nur has broad experience in helping clients with chronic illness and pain, and the interface between physical health and psychological wellbeing. Therapy here entails not just accepting a difficult diagnosis, but also becoming empowered to advocate for care, understanding the psychological impact it may have such as anxiety, depression, confusion and grief, and adjusting to life in a meaningful way.

Nur provides guidance in managing changes, setting expectations, and fostering a purposeful, self-compassionate mindset. Sometimes managing stress and anxiety can have an impact on the severity and possible healing of disease. Nur has specialised training in supporting people living with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), which is one of many conditions that research shows can improve with psychological support.

Therapy for clients with Neurodiversity

Nur has a genuine acceptance and appreciation of neurodiversity, providing support for any person who considers themself neurodiverse. She follows a strengths-based approach which forms the foundation of neurodiversity affirming psychology practice. This provides safety to be one’s neurodiverse self, where one can receive support with the challenges that come from being different.

Nur works with a variety of neurodiverse experiences like Autism, ADHD, twice-exceptionality and learning difficulties. She does this with the understanding that each person’s lived experience will be unique, and can’t be labelled to be understood. It is therefore important to meet the person where they are at, with their own unique strengths, challenges, social situation and so on.

Many neurodivergent people experience co-occurring difficulties such as anxiety, depression, intellectual disabilities, language disorders, disordered eating and difficulties recognising and expressing emotions. Evidence suggests that strength-based approaches to these challenges promote wellbeing, mental health, and quality of life. The aim is to embrace one’s uniqueness, manage challenges, nurture self-acceptance, and live fully as a unique individual in the world.

Trained in Evidence-based Therapies

Nur is an experienced therapist who loves learning and values continuous growth, both professionally and personally. This has led her in training in the best therapies currently proven to be effective. In her therapeutic approach she draws on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), DBT, Cognitive Behavioral Analysis System of Psychotherapy (CBASP), and trauma-informed frameworks, always tailored to a client’s unique needs.

Educated and clinically trained in the UK, Germany, and Australia, she brings a comprehensive and rich evidence-based understanding of psychology into practice.
