About Prof Russell

Professor Russell Hawkins brings a wealth of experience in psychology and academia (particularly with the training of new psychologists). His illustrious career includes being Director of Clinical Programs (Psychology), Head of the Psychology Department, and Associate Dean of Psychology at different universities in Australia and Singapore. He has also practised at the Flinders Medical Centre Pain Management Unit and in private practice in Adelaide for many years.


Russell is a supportive therapist with a calm and thoughtful manner. He is a seasoned psychologist and a sympathetic listener. Russell is highly skilled in many spheres and aspects of psychology and has published in the fields of, inter alia; pain, emotional abuse and neglect, child sexual abuse and child protective practices, hypnosis, and self-efficacy. Russell is both a clinical and forensic psychologist.


Russell works with adults and couples. All his work is guided by three components: (1) the best evidence; in combination with (2) individual clinical expertise; and consistent with (3) patient values and expectations. He is skilled in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Hypnosis, Distance Therapy, and various other psychotherapy models.


Russell is solution focussed and interested in helping his clients thrive in their lives and relationships. Psychological therapy can help a person gain better self-insight, understand unhelpful thought processes, and improve mood, symptoms, and relationships.
